How to Pick Your Perfect Hair Colour
Hair Colour Tips Only Your Stylist Knows
Actress Alicia Witt sports gorgeous red hair, think it's natural?
Just as proper hair care isn't a science, neither is getting your hair colour right. Our stylist will help you choose:
-
If you're better off with single-process colour or highlights,
-
What colours you're naturally drawn to.
-
Colours that compliment your skin tone.
Here are some helpful hints on Hair colour
Can you go Blonde ?
Some women look good in any colour (remember Linda Evangelista?) but most women don't. If you had blonde hair as a kid, it is likely you'll look good.
Tip: never colour your hair more than two shades lighter than your natural shade.
The Right Way to go Brown ?
If you have super pale skin and brown hair, consider going lighter. Super dark shades can wash you out and even make you appear older. Do you love the trendy "
bronde hairstyles" for brunettes ? The perfect sun-kissed look.
Can I go Red ?
Almost everyone can go red, however it is most important to find the right shade of red. Your George Janis Stylist will advise you here.
How to chose Colour or Highlight.
If you have a great base hair tone, you are better off with highlights. You want to enhance what you naturally have. If however your base colour washes out your skin tone or just doesn't do it for you then consider a single process colour.
If your choice is highlights, which kind ?
There are four types:
-
Basic foil highlights
-
Baliage or hair painting
-
Chunking or piecing
-
Low Lighting
Foil highlights add strands of colour to your hair. You can get up to 5 different shades in hair for a more natural look.
Baliage (hair painting) allows the stylist to add natural stripes of colour to hair in large or smaller bands. This is best for women with a great base colour who want just a couple of shades lighter.
You wont need to get roots touched up as much with baliage as with foils.
Low Lighting allows the stylist to add darker shades to hair, giving more contrast.
What are the benefits of foils for colour treatments ?
-
more control over how fine/chunky the high/low lights are.
-
you can have more than 1 colour.
-
they get closer to the roots.
-
less painful.
-
more control over where the colour is being placed; particularly on grey areas.
-
can be used on any length/thickness of hair.

Foils range from 1/4 head (top section) to a full head. The benefits of foils include less damage due to smaller sections of hair being coloured but still an all over blended natural look, easy to maintain and they grow out much less noticeably. Great for natural blondes wanting a new look with out losing their original colour. Dark browns who want to go lighter can be done by adding caramel tones.
Combine Foils + Colour
